Retired People Have Amazing Skills And they Need Extra Money Too!

As we get older, people tend to discredit our abilities and our potential. When you were younger it was your parents telling you to get a job like everyone else (the norm).

A few years later on, it could be your employer telling you that you NO you can’t have a pay rise and by the way that the new University graduate that just joined the company is being “fast tracked” to be your boss within the next 12 months.

I hear a lot of people saying “Oh… that’s just how it is”.

I don’t think so. I don’t think that way at all.

I think that as we age we develop a whole lifetime of experience and learning that makes us an asset to our families, our communities and our lives.

I think that all of this life experience makes you far from ordinary… I think that it makes you EXTRAORDINARY.

I think that you have a whole world of knowledge and experience and living that you are just bursting to share with other people. I think that by picking a topic that you really love (a niche) and sharing all of your knowledge and experience with every one that you could be really successful.

And the best part is that you can pick any topic that you like!

  • You can choose a hobby
  • You can choose an interest
  • You can choose your current career
  • You can choose a career that you dreamed about doing in your 20’s….. but you went out and got a “sensible job” instead.
  • You get to pick ANY topic that interests you!

You have a whole lifetime full of knowledge and experience to share with people so why not start today?

Why don’t you start blogging on a topic that interests you and then recommend a few goods and services that you know will really help people and then whoosh! When they buy the products that you recommend you can earn a commission on the sale.

Sounds great doesn’t it!

Did you know that you can even start this online blogging business if you are unemployed? Yes, that’s right, you can get started for FREE. CLICK HERE to learn how to start blogging if you are unemployed and it needs to be $0.

So what sort of skills do we need to start blogging

Well all we need is a hobby or an interest – TICK

and then a really strong desire to help people.

This one is actually the easiest one of all. The reason is that every niche has some products that are AMAZING and some products that are “junk”. All you have to do is look out for which products are really helpful and let people know and also let people know about which products are “junk” and let them know to stay away from those as well.

And of course there are the products in the middle….. you know the ones that are OK for some people, but no for others. If you honestly believe that a product is right for one type of person but not for another, then just say it.

Honestly really is the best policy.

And the best part about writing product reviews is that honesty really will help you build rapport with people and your audience (website visitors) will look to your opinion as an authority in this space.

You have HEAPS of skills and knowledge and experience which you can share with people of all ages.

  • You are unique.
  • You have an unbelievable amount of potential.
  • You have skills that few people have.
  • You have interests that make you unique.
  • You have quirks.
  • You are special.

It is all these qualities that will make you successful online.

It is my understanding and appreciation that ANYONE can achieve success online.

I know this because I have worked with all types over the years.

I have worked with……

  • truck drivers,
  • teachers,
  • doctors,
  • stay at home moms/dads,
  • nurses,
  • construction workers,
  • office clerks,
  • veterans,
  • the unemployed,
  • the over employed,
  • students…you name it.

One thing that I have found is that we all have a bit of doubt about our abilities. I do, you probably do.

This is because we have tried different things over the years and failed. Sometimes we have even been “told off” or made to feel like we have “failed”.

Perhaps we didn’t get a “passing grade” in high school,

or we didn’t get the job,

or we didn’t win the game

or we didn’t give the right answer.

Sometimes in life we get in trouble for failing. Sometimes we get in a little bit of trouble for failing and sometimes we get into a LOT of trouble and feel like a total “failure”.

This creates doubt. A doubt that we are not born with, but a doubt that comes with age and that is influenced by our environment.

Failing is good and completely normal. It is part of problem solving. We are problem solvers and it is solving problems that give us purpose in life.

Think about it.

When do you feel as though you have purpose in life?

It is when you solve problems in your own life, and in others.

Helping others feels amazing

Part Time Jobs for Retired People is as easy as helping people

We all want to contribute to our community in really positive ways and you can do it as well.

Starting a blog post on a topic that you care about is a great way to help others online.

As the website owners you can offer wonderful advice and solve many of your clients problems. Some of them will even become your friends.

Just knowing that you are helping people and offering quality advice and understanding on a topic that you care about really does create a sense of accomplishment, and it leads to growing skillet.

Now it is your time to solve your niche’s problems,

Can you….

Pick goods and services in your niche that are really helpful and people should know about?

Spot “dodgy” or bad products a mile away and be willing to let other people know to stay away from those products.

Are you good at solving problems related to you niche?

Are you OK with giving it a go? You might fail at it before you succeed at it…. but at least you will have a lot of fun along the way.

What niche would you pick?

  1. Hi Glenys

I was so intrigued with your article on Part time time jobs the retired. As I was reading a post it felt like you were speaking directly to me. I can’t imagine how retire people feel when the job say no to them. I can agree with you the elderly need income too. So thanks you mention ways for them to overcome the problem of finance by joining the wealthy affiliate program. It’s so much to learn in the training that can bring extra income. Great job

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Anthony,

Thank you for stopping by today, I really appreciate that. Thank you for your kind words as well. They will inspire me to write more articles like this one.

I agree with you that many people as they mature in age apply for job after job only to be rejected. This can be very disheartening for many people and can have a negative impact on their self esteem.

This is sad, because I honestly believe that people in this phase of life have HEAPS of skills and experience that they can share with the world. If only they knew a way to make it happen for them. I believe that Affiliate Marketing could be a really good choice for many people.

This is especially true because they don’t have to actually purchase any of the products themselves if they don’t want too.

  2. My mother just retired a couple of months ago and I wonder whether wealthy affiliate is suitable for her or not. She is just a newbie and I really don’t want her to be bored while creating a business. She also wants to work a couple of hours per day.
Do you recommend it for her?

    1. Hi Furkan,

Thank you for visiting us today and for sharing your story with us.  Please pass on my congratulations to your mother for retiring.  She must be very happy and proud after working a whole lifetime.

As a newly retired person, she is a perfect candidate to start her own business. She still has lots of skills and knowledge and now she also has a lot more time on her hands.  She may even have a hobby or special interest that she would like to spend more time learning exploring and sharing her findings.

The extra pocket money that comes with starting a new business would be really handy as well…. It might even pay for a few well earned holidays for her!

  3. Great site! And kudos to helping and encouraging people to try out blogging. I used to think it was a young kids game! Maybe it is! But I am doing alright with it and was retired due to a disability and seeking an extra income.

I did n’t go the choosing a hobby or something that I am passionate about but something I really wanted to become knowledgeable about. You could say that passion for the knowledge has pushed me through!.

Keep up the great work and keep helping people!.

    1. Hi Derek,

Thank you for stopping by today and sharing some of your personal knowledge and experience with us.  I really appreciate that. Thank you also for your support and encouragement to get other people to try blogging.

I agree with you that it really is a wonderful past time for retired people. It just seems a perfect fit for me, especially if you have the perfect mix of experience and knowledge and free time…. and if you can make extra $$ then why not right?  Retirement can be a little more expensive than many people initially think, a few extra dollars would be a god send for many people.

Sorry to hear about your disability.  I am happy to hear that you picked yourself up and have started actively blogging and building a business online.  I hope it goes really well for you.

I really like your tip about picking a hobby that you are actively seeking out extra information on and then sharing that extra information with other people.  That is a great idea. Thank you for sharing that.

I really like what you said about “it’s that passion for knowledge that has pushed me through”.  That is a great tip for many people who may be experiencing a health challenge like diabeties or something that came on later in life.  Because they are on the internet actively hunting around for useful information, so why not share that knowledge with other people?  It sounds like a great partnership right?

Thanks for sharing some of your personal experience with us today. Together we all grow and learn faster.

  4. Hello Glenys, I enjoy reading your articles. It is so true that life experience is very valuable, and unfortunately has become under-valued in the work place – I feel this is so colleges can keep selling courses and continue getting rich, while students struggle to pay off student loans – notice how everything now needs a certificate or college course for entry to the job world. Colleges make big money on this, forcing people to pay for unnecessary college training, most of the training I use today I obtained on the job – not in the classroom. I have the “education” and degrees from college, but really it was mostly just a bunch of kids fooling around before heading out to the real world. I do hope that those over 50 that want to work will be welcomed into the work place or find their groove to work from home and share their life experience. My husband Shawn is under 50 and sharing his life experiences as the Abundant Blogger, I had no idea my husband was such a talented writer till he shared his writing, I think he would be encouraged also by your article today.

    1. Hi Tara, thank you for visiting us today, I really appreciate that. Your kind words will help me to keep going and to try harder.
It is true that mainstream education is very expensive….. and the bill is getting more and more expensive every year. I agree with you that many jobs that 10 or 20 years ago that previously did NOT require a University degree now all seem to require a University degree to get the role. I agree with another point you made about the quality of “on the job training” v’s education. I am University educated, but I also think that real world experience is #1.
Thank you for saying that you hope that people aged over 50 will be welcomed back into the workforce and find their groove. I think that this group of people have HEAPS to offer.
I am happy to hear that you husband is sharing his life experience at “abundant blogger”. Good on him. I hope that the website will be a roaring success for you both.

Your article was very positive and encouraging. I really liked the way you listed all the qualities older people would have.which equip them to be able to take up blogging for extra income.
Great site and one I have book marked to refer to again.

  6. I do agree with you that retired people have amazing skills. Also, the valuable experience they carry with them. I have to say that they are much wiser too.

After having to work for several decades, I am pretty sure they would want to do a bit of travelling. But, they need money to do so. What better way to do it than starting their own website and monetize from it. They can even work on the website while travelling! At their own pace.

    Your article is very encouraging!
    Sharon

    1. Hi Sharon,

  7. Glenys,
I’m not retired yet but I do plan on doing something while in retirement. I would like to start something like this now, it might not move as fast as I would like it to, but I would be learning something that I can use the rest of my life. This is a great opportunity for those of us that can’t just sit all day, we need to do something to keep us busy so we might as well learn something in the process. Sounds like you can learn while you earn, what a great thing. I like moving forward because I don’t like the alternative. LOL

    1. Hi Irene,
Thank you for stopping by today and sharing some of your insights with us. I agree with you that if you would like to start an online business, you are better off starting your first website early so you can learn lots and then hopefully it will grow into something that is really successful that you will have for life. I agree with you that it is a great opportunity for anyone who just can’t sit still all day. Personally I really like the idea of earning while you learn! Who wouldn’t right?

  8. Glenys,
When I first started looking for something part time after I retired, I thought that creating a website would be hard to do and I could not do it. With more than 15 years in the home improvement business, I put this knowledge to work on a website that I built. I share my knowledge and inside tricks with people all over the world, and make a few bucks on the side.
This gives me something I can do from anywhere, I do not have to punch a time clock or go to an office. I work the schedule that makes the best of each day. I can work in the morning or evening, as long as I do put in some work each day.
It does feel great to answer questions daily about what I did many years ago.
    John

Thank you also for saying that you started this website AFTER you retired. I am glad that you agree you are never to old to learn something new or do something that you love. I am glad that you get to share your knowledge and experience with people and it’s even better that you get to make a few “bucks” on the side. Good on you John!! May your success continue.

  9. Ageism is rife in Western culture. By the time you’re in your 50s, you start becoming invisible.Getting a job in your 50s is also problematic as most companies want young, fresh, malleable minds not old fogeys stuck in their ways who are slow to learn. The experience gained by late middle age people isn’t valued.

And, even if you are one of the lucky ones who is valued, you’re chucked out the door when you reach 65! Those reaching retirement age and those in retirement have a lifetime of experience to draw on. Many also still have a thirst for learning new things and they (should) have maturity and mellowness to roll gracefully with the punches when things don’t go according to plan.

Running a blog is a great way to impart wisdom and knowledge and keep in touch with the wider world. It gives you something to do and expressing your views is something to look forward to. It keeps the brain active too. And if you make a bit of money from your blog, all the better!

    1. Hi Gary,

Thanks for stopping by today and sharing some of your knowledge with us today. I really appreciate that. Together we all grow and learn faster.
Thank you for saying what you did about how valuable and worthwhile workers aged 50+, 60+, 70+ and 80+ can be.I agree with you than many of these people have a lifetime of knowledge, skills and experience that can really make a positive difference to any organisation.
Thank you also for mentioning too about hwo people in retirement age have a lifetime of knowlege and maturity to share.
I agree with you that running a blog is a great way to impart wishdom and knowledge and keep you young and live and helps challenge the brain to delay / prevent Alzhimers.

The extra $$$ is wonderful as well.

  10. Yes, I agree with this post we all have skills that come with experience in some niche. I do also agree that we can help other people with those skills. There is always someone wanting to know what we have learned and will pay money to get it. Why because it solves a problem for them and sets them at ease have found the solution. Young or old blogging can fit anybody.

    1. Hi Fred,
Thank you for stopping by today.
Thank you – I also agree that everyone has skills and knowledge that they can use. Thank you for saying that you do as well. You are never to old to contribute to society and to help people by sharing your experience and tips. Young or old, blogging can certainly help everyone.

  11. I agree with you, Glenys, blogging is a great alternative to retired people.

It’s fun, you learn lots of new things while doing it (which, I learned, is a powerful tool against Alzheimer’s), AND you make money.

Some people may get nervous about learning a new activity later in life, but I can attest that it’s completely possible if you join the right training.

    1. Hi Eliane,
Thank you for visiting us again. I really appreciate that.
I am glad that you agree with me – blogging is a great alternative for retired people. It’s fun, you learn a lot to keep your brain active and you get to do new things each day.
AND yes! Many, many people even get to make money as well – Wooah! A full time income is great.

Thank you for reassuring people that yes, you can learn new things and make money later in life. Anything is possible.

  13. What a great post you have written here – you are so right to say that as we get older we gain more knowledge and experience that can be of real advantage to all that surrounds us! Instead, companies go for the ‘young blood’ which actually doesn’t make sense at all!!
In the olde days, the older people of the village were considered to be the wise and revered for it. getting a lot of respect and rightfully so.
In this modern age, values and principles have been thrown to the wind – all in pursuit of ‘advancement’ when in actual fact it is causing exactly the opposite.
You are offering here an excellent opportunity for all of us, retired and not, to pursue our true passion, be able to earn money from home – or where ever we chose to be (by the side of a pool in a tropical paradise is good too =) )
Thanks for sharing this with us!
    Orion

    1. Hi Orion,

thank you for stopping by today, I really appreciate that. Thank you also for your kind words, that will encourage me to continue to share my knowledge of internet marketing with others.
I agree that only a few short generations ago, the “elders” of the tribe were highly respected and actively approached for their wise counsel.
Those days are gone now and we are becoming more and more concerned with technology and “quick wins”.
All of us – retired or not, can start a business online and earn a full time income or just some extra “pocket money” to help cover the bills….. or have a few extra drinks by the pool in a tropical paradise somewhere.

  14. Dear Glenys,

Thank you so much for the post – you are an amazingly convincing writer! Well, not there was something in your blog that I wanted to argue with, but your choice of words really make people feel great about themselves!

I totally agree that with the age we get more mature, wiser and have a lot of knowledge and experience to pass over to younger people and help others. Creating a website for sharing experience on something we know and love is a rewarding job. Retirement is a very appropriate time to manage such website: teaching through writing and learning keep our brain active; we have enough time to do both (and we define “enough” for ourselves); we feel appreciated for the help we provide; we earn extra money, which is never really “extra” at the retirement.

Thank you again for the very comprehensive and convincing article.

    ~ Julia

Thank you – I HONESTLY believe that as we age we get more mature, wiser and the extra knowledge that we have accumulated is amazing. I really like sharing knowledge with other people and helping them achieve their goals faster.
I really like your comment that learning and growing in retirement helps to keep our brain active, AND we have extra time so that we can take action.

  15. Hallo there,

My uncle will surely love me after I show him this post. He has been complaining that he doesn’t get the chance to work for himself and he hates it when he has to depend on me for money.

He pushed this me this morning until I had to research on jobs for retired people, and he is going to love the idea of building his own website for farming.

Thanks for helping me find my peace.

    1. Hi Dave,

What a great nephew you are! Your uncle is very lucky to have you.

I agree that it can be hard to work for yourself and to learn new things as we get older. This is where step by step training is the key to anyones’s success.  There is no point suffering in silence. If we can all tap into each others knowledge then we can all move forward together.

  16. Dear Glenys,
I simply could not have run my blog when I was teaching. The job itself was so exhausting I would not have energy to work more. But at 67 I am finding the fun and communication around doing a website quite exhilarating. And of course meeting people like yourself.

I agree with you that full time work when you aging is exhausting. Coming home and thinking about turning the computer on and starting a “second job” could be exhausting!
