I mean who wouldn’t want to work from home and live “the laptop lifestyle” right?

The Top #2 Things That You Need To Do To Be Successful Online
The #1 thing that you can do if you really want to be successful online is to understand HOW to generate website traffic. Once you understand how to get a whole lot of visitors to come to your website and be interested in a topic that you are talking about (niche), then you are ready to move onto the next piece of the puzzle.
The #2 most important thing you can do to make money on line is AFTER you have figured out how to get website visitors (traffic) to your website, you then need to figure out which products and services SOLVE their problems.
So #1 get website visitors (traffic)
#2 figure out how to solve their problems
With both of these items – attracting website visitors AND solving their problems, the single most important thing to remember if you want to sell goods or services on line is
“If YOU WANT TO SELL, FIRST YOU MUST HELP!”
That’s right. NOBODY wants a stranger to lecture them on “what they should do” or “How they should spend their hard-earned money” so don’t even try. It’s not worth it.
Put yourself in your audience’s shoes. How would you respond if a “Used car salesman was trying to force you into giving up your hard-earned money if you didn’t want to?”
I mean you would get pretty defensive pretty quickly right?
As a website visitor this means that you would simply take your mouse and click away…..
That’s right you would get as far away from someone trying to “sell” you something as you could right?
…….and that’s EXACTLY how your website visitors feel.
If you can show that you can offer great advice.
If you can show that you are an expert in your niche.
If you can show that your website is full of great content that helps elevate your brand into becoming an “authority site”.
Then people are more likely to appreciate your advice. You will move from being a “horrible moment” in their day, to a website offering great advice from a trusted friend.
Now isn’t this what we all want to be?
If you can show that you are genuinely helping people, then there is a MUCH higher chance that people will buy from you.
Ultimately our main goal is to run a profitable and highly lucrative business right?
Please remember at all times, that we all want to earn a profit.
The biggest problem is that many people lose track of the fact that marketing, running a successful business, and ultimately earning money is about building a relationship with your potential clients.
Never forget the fact that ever though we are in the “virtual world”, this is a people business and you are dealing with REAL people.
- REAL people are coming to your site.
- REAL people are reading your content.
- REAL people are going to take action if they trust yet.
If you understand the customer part and how to treat them like gold, then the money will naturally follow.
My Top 3 Customer Focused Questions to ask
The top three questions that I ask myself when I am about to move into a new niche and before I start building out my new website is:
1) Who is my potential customer?
Some great mini-questions that I ask myself to help with this answer are:
- What are their likes?
- What are their interests?
- What are their hobbies?
- What are their needs?
- What is it they want?
- Are they a man or a woman?
- How do they like to be treated?
- How do they spell and say keywords in that country for example Mom v Mum? Autumn v Fall?
In marketing these questions fall under a specific category called consumer behaviour.
This word really just attempts to explain how different people’s personalities impact on the buying decision.
An example would be do you know someone who loves “Apple products so much that they MUST have the latest gadget when it comes out?”
How about someone who buys a standard beach towel because the colors used are the same colors as their favorite football team? I know I have bought lots of gifts this way over the years.
If you can get a clear picture in your head about the type of “imaginary person” who might buy your product, then it helps you write to THEM so they are more likely to buy your product.
A classic example is protein powders and shakes. Many of these products are created for males aged 20-30. If this is you then that’s OK, you just have to really embrace this and select graphics and other visual imagery that appeals to this target market.
Pictures of weightlifters, perfect Ab’s and gyms would be a great fit.
Pictures of cats and flowers and rainbows would be a bad fit. Do you see what I mean?
2) What products / services do this sort of customer normally buy ONLINE?
When you start a niche, you might be lucky enough to have 10,001 products to sell (lucky you if you do!).
But logic says that there are only 24 hours in the day for you to work on your business so in the beginning at least, you are better off focusing your energy in the sorts of products that your target market ACTUALLY buy online.
I don’t believe that you can sell “ice to Eskimos”.
Focus your energies on top selling items and hopefully you will be rewarded with lots of sales sooner rather than later.
So how do you know what products / services are best-sellers in your niche?
If you have physical products, you can go to your search engine and type in “Amazon best-sellers” in your search query bar.
And you will get a URL for the current list of Amazon Best Sellers.
To go directly to Amazon Best Sellers, please click here.
Now you can simply scroll down to your niche and you will be show a visual on all the best-selling items.
See how easy that was?
3) You should ask “WHY is my client purchasing online v’s in the real world?”
This is a great question to ask. We are all in business to make a profit after all, so eventually we actually need lots of customers to actually BUY our products / services or else we don’t have a business at all. Makes sense doesn’t it?
In the real world all products and services have a TON of competition.
The buying model is really well-established as well. For example if you would like to buy a jumper you know where to go and how to purchase the item and you know if you can take the product home instantly or not. You also know what to do in case of a faulty item or if there is a problem with sizing.
So….. having said that, WHY would YOUR customer purchase online?
Keeping our Jumper example, maybe your client is time poor so they order online due to convenience.
Maybe they have a favorite brand that is not available locally and they must go on-line to find it.
Maybe they were buying a pair of jeans and the jumper was available as a bonus for only $1.
Maybe the online store was offering a great deal and shipping was free for orders over $50. So they are value shoppers and they identified a great deal and they took it.
When you realize WHY a person would make a decision to buy online, then the only thing left to figure out is HOW they would make a buying decision from YOU!
The #1 Problem That I Regularly See New Website Owners Make is….
The number 1 mistake that I see new website owners make is that they try to SELL “stuff” to their website visitors before they really understand WHO their website visitor is or WHY the website visitor will buy from them v’s a “real world” competitor.
Have you ever clicked on a website and seen “flashy stuff” and lots of “annoying pop ups” and lots of really random looking ad’s that are not a match for what you are looking for?
What did you do when you found these sites? I bet you got annoyed or confused and then simply clicked away and moved on.
I know I have.
The #1 Problem That This Mistake Creates Is…
The number 1 problem that this mistake creates is that you waste your valuable time and money PROMOTING what you THINK your customers want from you rather than what they ACTUALLY DO want from you.
Unfortunately this is a VERY common and VERY expensive mistake that lots of website owners make is in relation to Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising campaigns.
Here a website owner swaps their hard-earned money in exchange for “bids” on selected keywords that they hope that their audience is looking for. The website owner gives their money to lots of places like Google AdWords and Facebook Ad Groups etc.
The website owner runs a campaign eg $50 for a specific keyword. For example “Build your own website”. Google runs the ad, the website owner gets lots of visitors…. BUT how many of those website visitors actually go on and purchase something?
This is the key question. Unless you understand WHY your target customers would be prepared to give money to YOU then you will always struggle to make a profit.

The #1 way to protect yourself, your time and your hard-earned money
The #1 way to protect yourself and your hard-earned money is to REALLY understand what your target customers want from you AND what they are prepared to pay for, in an “online” environment.
That sentence sound so simple, but it will take you a while to figure it out and many times just when you get it figured out nicely, your customers will change or your products will change.
The most successful business owners in the world are the ones who are prepared to adapt.
