The next logical step in the process is to ask yourself, so “how do I go about finding good keywords for my SEO?”
This is a great question.
So to answer your question properly, let’s look at what SEO keywords are and that will help explain why a lot of people think they are so important.

So what is a SEO keyword?
A SEO keyword is defined as “a particular word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page. Keywords are intended to act as shortcuts that sum up an entire page.” source https://www.techopedia.com/def…
The search engines would take this information and then convert it into “computer speak” (using Indexing, meta title and meta description. Don’t worry about these for now, we will talk about them later as you website fills out.)
The user would come along and type in what they were looking for eg “English Rock Bands from the 1960s”. The search engines would to check the SUMMARY (index or keywords) regarding what the website post or page contained, and then return a result (search engine results page or SERP rating).
The viewer (being a real person) would select a website to look at based on the results presented.
Webmasters figured out very early on that the higher up the search engine rankings their particular website page or post ranked, then the more “free” or organic search engine traffic would come to their website.
Webmasters got very excited about that and a whole industry regarding SEO and on-page SEO optimization was born.
So how does this help you?
The most important thing to remember is that keywords are simply words related to your niche that are relevant.
So how you would apply this is, if you have decided to write a whole blog post / page regarding a topic for example 1,000 words on the Beatles during the 1960s, this would obviously take up a lot of your time. As such you would really like your article to be read by the largest target audience possible.
This is where SEO Keyword selection comes in.
If we use a keyword tool to help us, and type in “Beatles in the 1960s” we can see a list of the most popular search terms currently in use.

If we look at the search results in Jaaxy for people looking for “Beatles in the 1960s”
Here we can see a grouping of blog posts that have an ALMOST identical title. Based on the title, you can safely assume that the content would be fairly similar as well.
The examples include:
- Beatles in the 60s (no apostrophe)
- Beatles songs 1960s
- Beatles in the 1960’s (with apostrophe)
- Beatles 1960s (no apostrophe)
- Beatles 1960 (no “s” or apostrophe)
- Beatles 60s
- Beatles early years
From this selection we can see that item #3 on our list “Beatles in the 1960’s” (with apostrophe) has the largest number of people searching naturally for this term with 153 results. This is more than “Beatles in the 1960s” (no apostrophe) with 110 results. It also represents a MASSIVE difference of (110/153)*100 = 71.89. Wow that is a HUGE difference.
So that’s almost a 30% jump in potential website traffic just by adding or subtracting an apostrophe and the content of my blog is absolutely identical – WOW!
Once I realised this, it just made the biggest difference to my website traffic results.
As such if we wanted to help ensure that our website post was read by the largest possible number of people, then we would definitely make sure that we selected this one as our title.
So now that we know how many people are searching for our chosen topic or niche “Beatles in the 1960’s” HOW do we apply this knowledge to our business?
That is a great question to ask.
Luckily for us, the answer is that we apply this knowledge pretty easily.
You can see from the screenshot taken from above, the answers really are that easy to see and apply straight away in our business.
